20 Jul 2009These wild masks might not stop you getting swine flu – but at least you’ll look fashionable.
Japanese designers Samira Boon offer more than 15 different masks including the pig snout mask and a range of other animal and human faces.
Surgical facemasks are an extremely common sight in Japan and other parts of Asia for sufferers of colds and flu.
They are usually worn to prevent passing illness on to other people rather than protecting oneself from disease.
Following the outbreak of swine flu across the globe, the Japanese government has been advising people to gargle, wash their hands, stay away from crowded areas and wear masks.
Other countries have been more skeptical about the use of the masks saying that they need to be changed every four hours and may still harbour the virus if they are damp from breath.
